About the programme
The Cross-Border Cooperation Program INTERREG V-A Greece - Bulgaria 2014-2020 was created within the framework of the European strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and for achieving economic, social and territorial cohesion.
The program covers an area of 40202 km2 and a populationof 2.7 million inhabitants from four territorial units at NUTS II level (regions) and 11 territorial units at NUTS III level (districts). These are the Evros, Xanthi, Rhodopi, Drama, Kavala, Thessaloniki and Serres prefectures for the territory of the Hellenic Republic and the regions of Haskovo, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Blagoevgrad on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The total budget of the Program is EUR 130 262 833, of which from the European Regional Development Fund are EUR 110 723 408 (85%) and EUR 19 539 425 (15%) – national co-financing from the two partner countries.
The program finances projects under the following priority axes:
- “A competitive and innovative Cross-Border Region”;
- “Sustainable and adaptable to the climate across borders”;
- “Cross-Border Region with improved interconnection”;
- “Cross-Border Region with high social inclusion”;
- “Technical support”.
The target groups and main types of beneficiaries are national, regional and local authorities as well as non-governmental organizations.
